PLEASE SAVE this so you remember ways to advocate for change once the news cycle is over We lost a 5-year-old, 8-year-old, and 11-year-old and a teacher in a senseless act of violence in Bend, Oregon. Gun violence is a public health crisis. Firearms have become the leading cause of death for children and teens ages 1 to 19 in the U.S. And as heartbreaking as that statistic is, the impact goes SO much further. Children and families are losing loved ones, witnessing violence, experiencing trauma, and growing up in communities where they don’t always feel safe. It’s the loss of life AND the emotional burden placed on the communities who live through it. This is what I see, and it pains me. Trauma that lives well after the event. When the Second Amendment was written, one shot meant a full reload. Today you can modify a handgun to fire like a military weapon. Our laws have not kept up. But this is not about taking all guns away, it’s about better laws to reduce loopholes. We have politicized a safety issue. When it is in fact a public health emergency. We are more united than divided on gun safety. A strong majority across party lines agree on common-sense solutions like universal background checks, raising the purchase age to 21, and red flag laws. We can respect responsible gun ownership AND have conversations about how to reduce firearm injuries and deaths. These things can coexist. At the end of the day, this is about protecting children, preventing unnecessary loss, and recognizing that the impact of gun violence doesn’t end when the shooting stops. Our children deserve to grow up feeling safe. And we should ALL want that for them. For gun reform: ➡️ Text ACT to 644-33 to stay informed and enraged so we can cause change @everytown ➡️ Donate to grassroots efforts if you have the means or volunteer @momsdemand @everytown @sandyhookpromise @march_fourth_ ➡
