I didn’t fully understand why cholesterol increases across the menopause transition until just a few years ago—when I focused on menopause education, I was shocked. In my clinic, I saw a pattern: the vast majority of women experienced rising cholesterol levels without changes in diet or exercise. When I dug deeper, I learned that the pathophysiology behind this wasn’t even discovered until 2014—and we’ve known since the 1990s that this shift happens independent of lifestyle.
