Which eye drops are the best? ⬇️ Artificial tears like Genteal, Blink, Refresh, Systane, Ivizia, Theratears are great choices. Because of the microbial contaminations of generic drops, I always buy name brand. Preservative vs. preservative free? Preservatives in the bottle mean that the drops can be used multiple times. Preservative free drops come in single use vials. You don’t want to use tears with preservatives more than 4 times a day because you can develop issues with toxicity from it on your cornea. Preservative free eye drops must only be used once and then thrown away. So you have to carry more of the ampules, but you can use them as often as you like. And, no, the answer is not Visine. Visine is not the same artificial tears. In its original form, Visine’s active ingredient is tetrahydrozoline. It works by constricting the superficial blood vessels of the eye to temporarily improve eye redness. That then alters the blood flow (which means oxygen and nutrients) to the front surface of your eye. Using Visine regularly can also actually make your red eyes worse, dilating the blood vessels of your eye after long term use. This is called rebound and can last for several days. And then of course, you feel like you need to continue using the drop to get the redness out. #redeyes #visine #dryeyes #artificialtears Admit it - who loves using Visine?
