3 Things I Don’t Let My Kids Do: 1️⃣Eye rubbing - Of course my kids rub their eyes, but I tell them to let me know when their eyes itch and if I see them rubbing, I treat it. This video demonstrates the amount of distortion that happens with eye rubbing. It can also introduce eye infection and worsen astigmatism. I figure out the cause for the rubbing and treat that whether it’s allergies or dry eyes or something else. Even a simple hot compress can work wonders. 2️⃣ Handle Fireworks: I never allow my kids to handle fireworks. Fireworks can cause serious eye injuries, including burns and even blindness and kids under 15 account for 1/3 of firework injuries. And yes even sparklers 🧨 3️⃣ Screen time without breaks - Near work (anything you do up close, reading, writing, phone use) has been shown to be linked to worsening nearsightedness. In kids. Nothing about screens has been proven to be worse to the eyes than conventional books but just the amount of time and intensity that kids use near phones/tablets is what can be harmful. #eyedoctor #pediatricophthalmology #eyerubbing #allergies #screentime Do you agree of disagree with my 3?
