If vaccines don't cause autism, why are more children being diagnosed with autism today? This is an important question, and increased diagnosis does not mean vaccines are responsible. We have gotten better at recognizing autism. Screening has improved, diagnostic criteria have expanded, and awareness has increased. That means more autistic children are being identified and getting access to the support they may need. And some of the other vaccine questions I hear deserve answers too. “What about too many vaccines at once?" Researchers have looked at that. Autism risk was not related to how many vaccine antigens a child received. "What if I just space them out?" Delaying vaccines does not make vaccination safer. It can mean longer periods when a child is left without protection. For MMR specifically, one study of more than 323,000 children found that delaying the vaccine beyond 15 months was actually associated with a higher risk of seizure after vaccination. And vaccines aren't only about the child receiving them. High vaccination rates also help protect babies who are too young to be vaccinated and children who cannot receive certain vaccines because of medical conditions. That matters even more while we're seeing the highest number of U.S. measles cases in decades. I never want parents to feel like they aren't allowed to ask questions about vaccines. Ask them. Bring the hard ones. Ask about benefits, risks, side effects, ingredients, timing, whatever is keeping you up at night. Good vaccine conversations shouldn't require blind trust. They should give parents accurate information so they can make informed decisions. And when it comes to autism, we have asked this question repeatedly. The evidence has given us an answer: vaccines do not cause autism. Talk with your child's pediatrician or family doctor about your questions. And please remember that autisti
