A rotator cuff tear is an injury to one or more of the tendons in the shoulder’s rotator cuff, a group of muscles and tendons that stabilize the shoulder joint and enable arm movement. Tears can occur due to overuse, aging, or trauma and may cause pain, weakness, and limited range of motion. Surgical repair involves reattaching the torn tendon to the bone using sutures and anchors. This can be done through arthroscopy, a minimally invasive procedure using a small camera and instruments, or through an open surgery, depending on the tear’s severity. Post-surgery rehabilitation includes physical therapy to restore strength and mobility.
