Yesterday, my mother fell and fractured her hip, requiring a hip replacement. It’s heartbreaking, and I’ll be honest, I’m upset. She never knew that her frailty and osteoporosis were largely preventable. She also never took steps to fight these diseases—and now it’s too late for her. But it’s not too late for us. It’s not too late for our daughters. I’m not looking for sympathy—my mother is surrounded by love, and we’ll help her through this. But it deeply frustrates me that there’s so little information out there about preventing these diseases. This lack of education is costing us far too much, and it’s my fight to change that. We deserve better.
