Do you have a tween who loves Sephora? Kids really don’t need eye creams and eye patches. And there are a lot of products with ingredients that are not meant for tween or teen eyes or eyelid skin. Retinol. This can cause meibomian gland dropout. What are meibomian glands? They are the oil glands in your eyelids that help make the oil for your tears so that your tears don’t evaporate so quickly. If they’re not functioning well, then you can get dry eyes. This is why I actually don’t recommend retinol around the eyes for anyone - adults or kids. Vitamin C. Though I love an antioxidant, kids don’t need it. And, it can even cause irritation or inflammation. The eyelid skin is the thinnest skin in the body and it’s even more delicate in kids. Glycolic Acid. Again, another ingredient that kids don’t need which can be harsh and irritating and even damaging if it gets in their eyes. No need for it, so avoid. Isopropyl cloprestonate - This ingredient is in a lot of lash serums and lash growing mascaras. My tween, only uses mascara for dance performances, but even then I avoid this ingredient. It can cause eye color changes, swelling inside your retina, loss of fat around the eyes and even skin darkening. Follow along for more family eye health pearls and screen time advice.
