As a pediatric ophthalmologist (with an adult ophthalmologist husband), we were very mission aligned about not wanting our kids on screens at the dinner table or at restaurants. This was NOT easy. I had 3 kids under the age of 4 and sometimes we were ready to give in. But I’m glad we didn’t. It helped that our group of friends felt similarly, so that when we got together with them, no kids were on devices. For us, meals shouldn’t be linked to being on a device whether at home or at a restaurant. We wanted our kids to learn how to talk, sit through a meal and to spend time together distraction free. Plus the less time they’re on screens the lower their chances of becoming nearsighted. Who agrees? Share your tips and tricks below!
