This is why ⬇️👓 2 hours of outdoor time daily can help prevent or slow the worsening of nearsightedness (myopia) in children. Research done in Australia 🇦🇺 ,China 🇨🇳, Singapore 🇸🇬, Taiwan 🇹🇼, South Korea 🇰🇷, and Denmark 🇩🇰 have all shown this benefit - outdoor time helps with kids’ nearsightedness. Spending time outdoors can be: * Preventative: Reduces the risk of developing myopia in the first place. * Protective: Slows the progression of myopia by 30–50% in kids who are already nearsighted. And this benefit is not just because kids aren’t inside on devices. They’ve compared indoor sports to outdoor sports and only outdoor sports activities show this benefit on nearsightedness. The exact mechanism is not quite clear, but it’s thought to combination of dopamine release and possibly Vitamin D release, both of which might inhibit myopic development. Of course, there’s lots of benefits to getting kids outdoors that go beyond eyes. And it’s free! I know not everyone lives in Hawaii, but try for that 2 hours a day - your kids don’t necessarily need to be doing anything active. Even just taking a walk, or sitting outside is enough to get the benefit on nearsightedness. and spending time outdoors, actually negated the genetic component of nearsightedness. So if there’s a strong family history of nearsightedness this is one simple modification to make to your child’s daily routine that can offset those genes! How much time do your kids spend outdoors every day?
