🏈 Jones Fracture in Athletes . Treating Jones fractures (at the base of the fifth metatarsal or foot bone) can be particularly challenging due to its location in a low blood-flow area of the foot. While conservative treatment can work for many, athletes often require surgical intervention for optimal outcomes. Recent studies show that intramedullary screw fixation + proper rehabilitation protocols, can get athletes back to competition within 2-3 mos. The key is early detection and appropriate surgical technique. Traditional conservative treatment can take up to 20 wks for full recovery. #footfracture #metatarsal . Success rate for surgical repair in athletes exceeds 95% when performed by experienced surgeons + modern techniques, but the choice between conservative vs surgical treatment depends on various factors (fracture type, displacement, athlete demands). Key considerations: - Proper surgical technique w/ appropriate screw size - Structured rehab protocol #SportsMedicine - Gradual return to weight-bearing activities - Regular monitoring of healing progress Derrick Henry @last_king_2 (NFL phenom) suffered a Jones fracture in his right foot during a 2021 game against the Indianapolis Colts. As an elite athlete, Henry underwent surgical treatment. Henry later reflected that the injury gave him a greater appreciation for the game, and he successfully returned to the field (currently w/ 1120 rushing yards for ‘24 season) . ⬇️ SHARE your foot injury experience & tips
