In 2015 I took my first job out of family medicine residency to go work in a “rural underserved” part of Kentucky as a hospitalist. This was supposed to fulfill my J-1 visa application waiver I knew no one there, afraid and alone plunged in! It was to last 2 years but ended up being a 6-year period I thought I would never see the day when I would become a permanent resident, talk less of a citizen of these United States Why? Just so I could also enjoy the freedoms and benefits this great country has to offer. Today I get to figure out if I will become a citizen.. come with me on this journey!
